Later in the series, Daemon goes on to marry Lady Laena Velaryon and has two daughters. After Laena's death, Daemon marries Rhaenyra herself and the pair have two sons. The eldest is named after Aegon the Conquerer but could be considered a slight on Alicent's eldest son, while the younger Viserys is named after Rhaenyra's father and Daemon's brother, King Viserys. Helaena is Aegon's younger sister (and wife) and daughter of King Viserys and Queen Alicent.

As the story unfolds, Princess Rhaenyra marries her uncle Daemon and they have two sons — Aegon the Younger and Prince Viserys. And it’s from Viserys and his wife Rogare that the Targaryen lineage eventually gets to Daenerys. King Viserys names his daughter Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) as his heir when she is just 8 years old, instead of his brother Prince Daemon (Matt Smith). But later, Viserys marries Alicent Hightower and has sons — Aegon II, Aemond, and Daeron. And it’s her and her son’s battle with Princess Rhaenyra over the Iron Throne that sparks the Dance of the Dragons.
He later married his niece, Princess Rhaenyra, and they had three additional children together. While the trio are technically Velaryons (having taking their father's name), Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey are all of Targaryen stock. Rhaenyra's husband, Laenor, isn't even the father of the children, with House of the Dragon's sixth episode strongly implying that Harwin Strong is their dad (and the following episodes making their true parentage even more obvious). Rhaenyra is Viserys and Aemma's daughter and their only surviving child, as well as Daemon's niece. Daemon commands the City Watch of King's Landing and instituted their famous gold cloaks as a uniform. Despite not being introduced in the series thus far, author George R. R. Martin has confirmed that Daeron is alive and well in the series but is currently in Oldtown.
In the ensuing drama, and with conflict heating up between Rhaenyra and Alicent and Aegon, she relocates to the Targaryen keep of Dragonstone, which means she’s not around when King Viserys dies. Instead of telling Rhaenyra about her father’s death, Alicent and Aegon prepare to anoint Aegon as the new king. When Rhaenyra finds out, she enters into a rage from which she never fully recovers. In her quest to take the throne for herself, she winds up going to some very dark places.
